Senior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) and sophomore guard Henry Hinkle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) scored 5 points apiece as Ohio Wesleyan closed out the first half with a 10-0 run, and senior post Grant Spicer (Cincinnati/Lakota East) sank 4 straight free throws during a key 7-0 second-half run that helped the Bishops to a win over Kenyon in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday in Gambier.

Kenyon opened up a 16-8 lead on a lay-in by Gefen Bar-Cohen with 8:02 remaining in the first half, and the Owls still led, 22-17, after a 3-pointer by Kamal Aubakirov with 3:25 left.

Clement sank a lay-in on the Bishops' next possession, and Hinkle followed with a 3-point play and a lay-in before Clement closed out the first-half scoring with a 3-pointer at the :32 mark, putting the Bishops ahead, 27-22, at the break.

The Owls came back to tie the game at 34 on a 3-pointer by Anthony Testa early in the second half, but Clement had a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer as the Bishops retook the lead with a 9-2 spurt.

Ohio Wesleyan still led, 52-44, when Spicer hit 4 consecutive free throws and Hinkle followed with a 3-pointer to stretch the margin to 59-44 with 6:16 remaining.

Kenyon closed to within 64-56 after a pair of Bar-Cohen free throws with 2:18 to go, but the Bishops put the game away at the free throw line, going 9-for-10 during the last 2-plus minutes.

Clement led the Bishops with 23 points, while Hinkle finished with 21 and junior wing Tony Carter (Cleveland/Parma Heights Holy Name) added 11.  Spicer had a team-high 7 rebounds.
