Ohio Wesleyan 79, Hiram 55

Senior wing Zane Ries (Barberton) and freshman guard Henry Hinkle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) scored 5 points apiece during a 12-1 second-half run that helped Ohio Wesleyan break open a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Hiram on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Bishops led, 36-30, at the intermission after a pair of hoops by junior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) during the final minute of the first half, and it was a 38-32 game after Hinkle drove for a lay-in and Hiram's Kevin Beans Jr. sank a pair of free throws.

Ries fed senior post Nick Carlson (Dublin/Coffman) for a lay-in to start the Bishop run, and after Oliver Clingain split a pair of free throws for the Terriers, it was Ries drilling a jumper from the lane and launching a 3-pointer to push the lead into double digits at 45-33.  Hinkle followed with a jumper from the lane and a 3-pointer to extend the cushion to 50-33 with 14:30 left in the first half.

Chance Wells hit a 3-pointer that brought Hiram within 50-36, but the Terriers would not come closer than that 14-point margin during the remainder of the game.

It was a one-possession game for more than 10 minutes before sophomore wing Tony Carter (Cleveland/Parma Heights Holy Name) connected from downtown for a 17-13 Bishop lead, but Hiram went on a 7-0 run that included a pair of Brodgie Gordon hoops and a Beans 3-pointer for 20-19 edge with 6:51 remaining.

Clement drained a jumper and drove for a lay-in less than 30 seconds apart to break a 24-24 tie and put the Bishops ahead to stay, leading to the hoops at the end of the half.

Clement led the Bishops with 25 points, while Hinkle added 18.  Junior post Grant Spicer (Cincinnati/Lakota East) snared a team-high 8 boards and senior post Dawsin Tillman (Bellefontaine) led Ohio Wesleyan with 3 assists.

Beans scored 9 points for Hiram.
