Junior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) sank a jumper that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead midway through the first half, but league-leading Wabash retook the lead and went on to a North Coast Athletic Conference win on Wednesday in Crawfordsville, Ind.
The Little Giants had broken a 6-6 tie with 7 straight points, including a jumper and a 3-pointer from Jack Davidson, but the Bishops countered with a 7-0 run of their own, with Clement hitting a pair of jumpers during that burst.
Later, Clement broke a 17-17 deadlock with a jumper on the break at the 10:14 mark of the first half.
The Bishops were within 24-22 after a hoop by senior post Dawsin Tillman (Bellefontaine) when the hosts went on a 10-2 run that included 3-pointers by Davidson and Jesse Hall, the latter opening up a 34-24 lead with 4:06 remaining in the period.
Ohio Wesleyan remained within striking distance through most of the second half, closing to within 64-58 on a pair of Clement free throws midway through the half. The Bishops were still as close as 82-74 after junior post Grant Spicer (Cincinnati/Lakota East) knocked down a 3-pointer with 2:07 left, but Wabash closed out the game by scoring the final 6 points of the contest.
Clement led the Bishops with 23 points. Freshman guard Henry Hinkle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) added 17 points, senior post Nick Carlson (Dublin/Coffman) added 10 points, and Spicer grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds.
Davidson scored 35 points for Wabash.
