Junior outside hitter Melissa Murray (Chardon/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) led the Ohio Wesleyan offense with 9 kills and sophomore middle blocker Claire Solberg (Huron) added 8 more, but 17th-ranked Otterbein defeated the Bishops in non-conference play on Thursday in Westerville.

The Cardinals won the match by scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-18.

Junior setter Abby Thierauf (Cincinnati/Milford) delivered a kill to give the Bishops a 19-18 lead in the first set, but Otterbein answered with kills from Morgan Hartman and Maddie Mergen to take a 20-19 advantage.  With the score tied at 20, the Cardinals scored the final 5 points of the set, with Amber Greeley contributing a pair of kills during the final run.

Solberg had a pair of kills as the Bishops rallied to within 20-16 in the second set, but Otterbein reeled off the next 4 points, with Hartman collecting a pair of kills and Greeley adding a kill and a block before ending the set with a kill.

Ohio Wesleyan was close again in the third set, pulling within 19-17 on an ace by junior outside Kaitlyn Peters (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead), but the Cardinals scored the next 3 points with the help of a Hartman kill, then got another Hartman kill to kick off a set-ending 3-0 burst.

Thierauf finished with 25 assists, Solberg led the Bishops with 3 blocks, and Peters had a team-high 8 digs.
