Ohio Wesleyan 3, Capital 1

Junior outside hitter Kaitlyn Peters (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead), junior outside hitter Melissa Murray (Chardon/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin), and senior outside hitter Eliza Richardson (Lakewood) led the Ohio Wesleyan offense as the Bishops posted a come-from-behind non-conference win over Capital in Ohio Wesleyan's home opener on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Bishops won the match by scores of 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-13.

Capital trailed, 10-9, in the first set when a 5-0 burst highlighted by a Lindsay Rich ace and an Alissa Holler kill put the Comets ahead to stay.  Ohio Weesleyan closed to within 22-20, but another Rich ace made it a 24-20 Comet lead and the visitors closed out the set with a Caleigh Hamby kill.

The Comets took a 13-10 lead in the second set on a Rich kill, but Ohio Wesleyan countered with a 10-3 run that included 3 kills from sophomore middle blocker Claire Solberg (Huron) and aces from sophomore right-side hitter Grace Cummings (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne), Peters, and
freshman setter Lily Bechina (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep).  Solberg had a block and a kill down the stretch to help the Bishops close out the set and even the match.

In the third set, Capital again led by a 13-10 count after a Hamby kill, but the Bishops pulled even at 19 on a Murray kill, and with the score knotted at 20, kills from Peters and Murray followed, and a Murray kill and another Cummings ace finished off the set for the Bishops.

Ohio Wesleyan broke a 6-6 tie in the fourth set with a 5-0 run that included kills from Peters and Richardson, and the Bishops pulled away from there.

Peters finished with a team-high 14 kills, while Murray had 12 and Richardson added 11.
Bechina collected 36 assists.  Solberg highlighted the Bishop defense with 6 blocks and junior
defensive specialist Neah White (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) had a team-best 16 digs.
