Capital 1, Ohio Wesleyan 0

Capital's Catherine Zugaro scored the game's only goal and the Comets went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference play on Wednesday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex, handing the Bishops their first setback in 5 outings this season.

Sophomore forward Avery Maxeiner (Sunbury/Big Walnut) highlighted an early Bishop barrage on the Comet goal.  Ohio Wesleyan had earned a corner kick in the sixth minute, and Maxeiner's original shot was blocked inside the penalty area.  Maxeiner pounced on the rebound and fired a shot that Capital keeper Lauren White saved.  The Bishops retained possession and fed the ball back to Maxeiner, but her header was stopped by White.

The Comets took the lead in the 15th minute when Grace Estes ran down the ball on the right end line and centered it to Zugaro.  Zugaro's one-time shot appeared to glance off a Bishop defender and bounced into the right side of the goal for the score.

Maxeiner had a chance at the equalizer early in the second half, but her header sailed over the crossbar.  Sophomore midfielder Ryan O'Neill (Cincinnati/Maineville Little Miami) and junior midfielder Jaelyn Dodson (Cincinnati/West Clermont) put shots on goal during the second half, but Capital keeper Liv Alford made the stop each time.

Both Ohio Wesleyan and Capital finished with 16 shots.  Freshman Natalie Ryan (Beavercreek/Dayton Carroll) recorded 4 saves.
