Freshman forward Jaz Brooker (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) scored in the second minute and the Ohio Wesleyan defense made the lead stand in a non-conference win over John Carroll on Saturday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.
Just over 90 seconds into the game, freshman midfielder Maya Burlingame (Canton/GlenOak) slotted a diagonal pass through the Blue Streak defense to freshman forward Paige Neal (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual), who continued to the end line, turned inside and centered to Brooker, who finished the chance near the left post.
The Bishops continued the offensive pressure, with sophomore midfielder Ryan O'Neill (Cincinnati/Maineville Little Miami) putting a pair of shot on goal in the first 11 minutes, but JCU keeper Juliana Kontul made the save each time.
Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Ryan (Beavercreek/Dayton Carroll) made a pair of saves during the first half to preserve the lead, and stopped a shot by Emily Patrzyk in the final minutes to nail down the win.
John Carroll outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 20-18. Ryan finished with 6 saves in posting the shutout.
