Muskingum Holds Off Volleyball Comeback

Junior outside hitter Kaitlyn Peters (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) and senior outside hitter Eliza Richardson (Lakewood) turned in double-digit performances in kills, but Muskingum withstood an Ohio Wesleyan comeback to take a non-conference win on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Muskies defeated the Bishops by scores of 25-17, 25-12, 16-25, 25-16.

Ohio Wesleyan had tied the first set at 15 on a kill by sophomore middle blocker Ava Kutilek (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier), but Muskingum scored the next 5 points, getting a Raegan Flood kill and an Addison Gingrich service ace, and went on to the win.  The visitors raced to a 10-1 lead in the second set as Khloe Taylor had 2 kills and Lexie Huck had a kill and a block.

The Bishops bounced back in the third set, breaking an 11-11 tie with a 4-0 run that included a kill and a block from Kutilek and a Richardson ace, then got a kill and an ace from Peters during a later 3-0 run that helped finish off the win.  Peters then delivered a kill to give Ohio Wesleyan a 14-13 lead in the fourth set, but the Muskies scored the next 5 points as Emma Dunham contributed a kill and a block, then closed out the match with another 5-0 run that included back-to-back kills from Flood.

Peters led the Bishops with 11 kills, while Richardson finished with 10.  Freshman setter Lily Bechina (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) had 31 assists.  Kutilek recorded a team-high 5 blocks.  Junior defensive specialist Neah White (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) was credited with 19 digs.
