Earlham Defeats Volleyball

Junior outside hitter Kaitlyn Peters (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) powered the Ohio Wesleyan offense with 8 kills, but Earlham swept the Bishops in a non-conference match during the second day of the Charlie Wrublewski Invitational, hosted by Mount St. Joseph University on Friday in Cincinnati.

Earlham won the match by scores of 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.

The Quakers opened up a 14-8 lead on back-to-back kills from Maria Young in the first set, but the Bishops bounced back to within 21-19 on kills by senior outside hitter Eliza Richardson (Lakewood) and junior outside hitter Melissa Murray (Chardon/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) before Earlham's Sydney Fuller came through with a kill and a block for the final 2 points of the set.

Earlham again took a 6-point lead in the second set, leading 21-15 before the Bishops rallied to within 22-20 with the help of a Peters kill, but the Quakers got kills from Fuller and Aniyah Harrington to close out the set.

In the third set, the Bishops narrowed a 16-9 deficit to 19-16 as sophomore middle blocker Claire Solberg (Huron) contributed 2 kills and a block, but Earlham ended the match on an Erin Wagner kill.

Peters had 8 kills and Solberg followed with 7 kills to go with a team-best 6 blocks.  Junior setter Abby Thierauf (Cincinnati/Milford) collected 13 assists and junior defensive specialist Neah White (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) had 10 digs
