Sophomore forward Avery Maxeiner (Sunbury/Big Walnut) put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard and sophomore defender Madison Cofer (New Albany) and junior forward Ireland Nowak (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) added scores as the Bishops defeated Penn State-Altoona in the first round of the Westminster Invitational, hosted by Westminster College on Saturday in New Wilmington, Pa.

Maxeiner scored off a feed from freshman midfielder Tiffany Trinh (Dublin/Scioto) midway through the first half.

Cofer tallied an unassisted goal in the 30th minute and Nowak tacked on an unassisted goal in the 50th minute.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot Penn State-Altoona, 11-7.  Freshman Natalie Ryan (Beavercreek/Dayton Carroll) and junior Abby Markley (Westerville/North) split the shutout in the Bishop goal, with Ryan stopping 3 shots and Markley making 2 saves.
