Junior wing Tony Carter (Cleveland/Parma Heights Holy Name) drilled a 3-pointer to give Ohio Wesleyan the lead, but Wooster scored the next 6 points and went on to a win in a battle for first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings on Wednesday in Wooster.
The win leaves Wooster in sole possession of first place with a 9-1 record, a game ahead of Ohio Wesleyan at 8-2.
Carter's 3-pointer put the Bishops ahead, 59-58, with 5:01 left in regulation time, but Wooster answered with a jumper by Jamir Billings and a 3-pointer by Turner Kurt, and after Najee Hardaway split a pair of free throws, the hosts held a 64-59 lead with 2:37 to play.
Senior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) connected on a 3-pointer that brought Ohio Wesleyan within 66-64 at the 1:24 mark, but the Fighting Scots put the game away at the free throw line, going 6-for-6 from the stripe during the final minute.
Wooster built an early 10-5 lead behind 6 points from Hardaway, and the Scots opened up a 17-9 lead after a Hardaway jumper at the 12:21 mark of the first half.
Ohio Wesleyan pulled even as sophomore guard Henry Hinkle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) sank a pair of 3-pointers and and senior post Grant Spicer (Cincinnati/Lakota East) followed with a lay-in, and the Bishops moved ahead early in the second half as Clement sank a 3-pointer and a jumper and Hinkle followed with a 3-pointer during an 8-0 run that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 41-36 lead with 15:31 left in regulation time.
Wooster came back to even the score at 41 on a 3-pointer by Najee Hardaway and a lay-in by Nick Everett, and the Scots would open up a 56-50 lead on a Billings jumper before a 9-2 Bishop run that included a pair of Clement jumpers and Carter's 3-pointer gave Ohio Wesleyan its 59-58 lead.
Clement led the Bishops with 26 points and shared the team lead with 5 rebounds. Hinkle had 14 points and led the Bishops with 4 assists, and Carter finished with 11 points.
