Denison 1, Ohio Wesleyan 0

Denison's Henri Hayes scored the game's only goal in the 87th minute, and the Big Red went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in a semifinal matchup of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.

Denison had earned a corner kick, and Kameron Kist sent the ball into the penalty area, where Hayes headed it home with 3:43 left in regulation time.

Scoring chances were difficult to come by during the first half of the contest.  Denison outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 9-4, during the period, but only 2 shots were on goal, with senior goalkeeper Mason Taylor (Marysville) stopping both.

Most of the second half was the same way, with the Big Red holding a 5-4 lead in shots through the first 40-plus minutes of play.

Ohio Wesleyan had a chance in the 83rd minute when sophomore forward Rowan Kriebel (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) made a run near the right end line, but his shot went across the goal mouth and wide of the left post.

"We played better than we did Saturday night, especially in the second half, when we played very, very well," said Bishop head coach Jay Martin, "but when you don't get any shots on goal, you don't win many soccer games.  We just didn't get it done in the final third."

Denison outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 15-8.  Taylor recorded 2 saves in the Bishop goal.

Senior forward Jaggar Brooker (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and Kriebel represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team.
