Seven Bishops Named to All-NCAC Football Teams

A total of 7 Ohio Wesleyan University football players were named to the All-North Coast Athletic Conference teams, it was announced today.

Senior defensive end Marquel Henry (Dayton/Chaminade Julienne) and senior free safety Drew Thornton (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) were first-team all-conference selections; junior linebacker Seth Anderson (Springfield/Kenton Ridge), sophomore wide receiver Josh Hurst (Port Clinton), and junior strong safety Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) were second-team all-league picks; and sophomore offensive lineman Blake Dichler (Creston/Norwayne) and junior defensive end Tyler Yanka (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) were third-team All-NCAC honorees.

Henry shares the league lead in sacks (10) and ranks second in the NCAC in tackles for loss (15), and led Bishop linemen and ranked fourth on the team with 48 tackles.  Henry was a first-team All-NCAC selection for the third consecutive season.

Thornton ranks second in the NCAC in tackles (8.4/game) and is tied for second in fumbles forced (2), and led the team in tackles with 84.  Thornton was a third-team All-NCAC honoree last year.

Anderson is tied for third in the conference in tackles (8.2/game), and ranked second on the team in tackles (82) and third in tackles for loss (6).  Anderson was a third-team All-NCAC pick in 2022.

Hurst leads the NCAC in receptions (75) and ranks second in receiving yards (810), third in receiving yards/game (81.0), and 12th in TD receptions (5).  Hurst was named Newcomer of the Year and was a second-team All-NCAC selection in 2022.

Stoner is tied for second in the NCAC in interceptions (4), ranks second in interception return yards (100), is tied for 14th in passes defended (7), and ranks 17th in tackles (6.2/game).

Dichler was a starter in an offensive line that helped the Bishops average 28.5 points and 332.4 yards in total offense per game in 2023.  Dichler was a third-team All-NCAC selection last year.

Yanka is tied for seventh in the conference in sacks (4½) and is tied for ninth in tackles for loss (8), and ranked second among Bishop linemen in tackles and third on the team in tackles for loss.

The Battling Bishops finished the season with a 5-5 record.  Ohio Wesleyan was 4-4 in NCAC competition, finishing fifth in the final league standings.
