DePauw's Jayla Logan scored to give the Tigers the lead late in the first half, and the DePauw defense made the lead stand to take a win over Ohio Wesleyan in a semifinal matchup of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament on Thursday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.
The Tigers cleared the ball to Annalise Grammel near midfield, and Grammel sent the ball to Sydney Calisto on the right side. Calisto laid the ball off to Logan near the top of the penalty area, and Logan's shot back across to the left side of the goal went in with 10:46 remaining in the first half.
A majority of the second half was played in the DePauw end as the Tigers protected the lead, and the Bishops put together a few chances for the equalizer.
Sophomore midfielder Halle Dacek (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) had a look in the 66th minute but Tiger keeper Aubree Empie made the stop. Sophomore forward Ava Bruns (Delaware/Hayes) had a shot in the 68th minute that met a similar fate.
In the 74th minute, freshman forward Jordyn Adams (Carroll/Bloom-Carroll) and Bruns fired shots that Empie stopped, and the Bishops had 3 straight corner kicks during the second half but could not put a shot on goal.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot DePauw, 19-5. Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Ryan (Beavercreek/Dayton Carroll) posted 2 saves.
Bruns and Dacek represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team.
