Ohio Wesleyan 80, Oberlin 65
Junior wing Reece Mitchell (Wooster) scored 4 points during a 10-0 run that opened up a double-digit lead, and Ohio Wesleyan went on to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Oberlin on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena.
Senior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a 3-pointer just under 2 minutes into the contest, and an eruption of 8 points in 59 seconds that included 3-pointers by Clement and junior wing Tony Carter (Cleveland/Parma Heights Holy Name) gave Ohio Wesleyan a 13-4 lead with 14:43 left in the period.
The Yeomen rallied to within 15-12 on a 3-pointer by Anastasis Spyroglou, and the visitors were still as close as 22-16 after a Spyroglou jumper midway through the half.
Mitchell split a pair of free throws at the 9:32 mark, and then 3-pointers by freshman guard Isaac Ward (Circleville/Logan Elm), sophomore guard Henry Hinkle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), and Mitchell within a span of 70 seconds stretched the margin to 32-16 with 7:50 left in the half.
Oberlin closed to within 45-36 after a bucket by Dorde Otasevic and a 3-pointer from Dimitrij Radusinovic early in the second half, and while the Yeomen remained within striking distance, the Bishops had an answer each time and that 9-point margin would be as close as the visitors would come.
Clement led the Bishops with 29 points. Hinkle finished with 12 points and a team-best 4 assists, Ward chalked up a season-high 10 points, and Carter grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
