Wittenberg 58, Ohio Wesleyan 47
Freshman guard Isaac Ward (Circleville/Logan Elm) hit a 3-pointer as Ohio Wesleyan narrowed a 12-point second-half deficit to just 5, but Wittenberg withstood the comeback and went on to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Bishops on Wednesday in Springfield.
Senior guard Curtis White (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) and junior wing Tony Carter (Cleveland/Parma Heights Holy Name) launched 3-pointers as the Bishops sprinted to an early 6-2 lead, and most of the rest of the first half was a one-possession game until the Tigers scored the final 8 points of the period to take a 23-16 lead into the locker room.
White opened the second-half scoring with a 3-pointer to bring the Bishops within 23-19, but the hosts reeled off the next 8 points, with Daniel Asher and Trey Killins scoring 4 points apiece, to take a 31-19 advantage.
Senior wing Jack Clement (Bellefontaine) knocked down a jumper to end Ohio Wesleyan's 4-plus-minute scoring drought, and when sophomore wing David Rice (Brook Park/Parma Padua Franciscan) sank a pair of free throws and Ward buried a 3-pointer, the Bishops were within 31-26 with 12:12 left in regulation time.
Wittenberg countered with an 8-0 run that included 3-pointers by Brice Hill and Cameron Harrison, and the margin would remain in double digits throughout the remainder of the contest.
Clement led the Bishops with 16 points. Senior post Grant Spicer (Cincinnati/Lakota East) had a team-high 10 rebounds and sophomore guard Henry Hinkle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) led Ohio Wesleyan with 3 assists.
