Sophomore back Gabe O'Reilly (Westerville/Columbus St. Charles) scored for Ohio Wesleyan in a non-conference loss to fifth-ranked John Carroll on Saturday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.

John Carroll took the lead in the eighth minute when Jaden Wright headed home a Logan Penton corner kick.

Sophomore forward Christopher Guerra (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) and junior midfielder Landon Kuhn (Lewis Center/Olentangy Berlin) had looks at the Blue Streak goal, but JCU keeper Brenden Moher stopped the respective efforts in the 15th and 19th minutes.  The Blue Streaks had a chance to increase the lead when Patrick Koenig had a look at an unprotected goal, but junior back Brady West (Dublin/Columbus St. Charles) blocked the shot to keep the game at 1-0. 

Just over a minute into the second half, Wright sent the ball ahead to Jack Foht, and Foht sent the ball goalward, with Wright tipping it in from in front to make it a 2-0 game.  The Blue Streaks added a score by Hayden Haffner in the 79th minute.

Ohio Wesleyan earned a corner kick in the 86th minute, with Guerra sending the ball to the top of the penalty area and O'Reilly winding up for a shot that found the back of the net.

"We lost to a better team," said Bishop head coach Jay Martin.  "We did not play particularly well, and we're still having trouble finding our way without Jaggar (Brooker).  We're struggling right now, and we'll have to get some things organized because we still have a tough schedule ahead of us."

John Carroll outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 21-13.  Senior goalkeeper Mason Taylor (Marysville) finished with 9 saves.
