Ohio Wesleyan 1, Hope 0
Sophomore forward Ava Bruns (Delaware/Hayes) gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead midway through the first half, and the Bishop defense posted its fourth consecutive shutout in a win over regionally-ranked Hope on Saturday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.
The Bishops took the lead after earning a corner kick. Sophomore midfielder Tiffany Trinh (Dublin/Scioto) sent the ball into the box, and junior defender Madison Cofer (New Albany) connected on a header that was stopped by Flying Dutch keeper Clara Feenstra. Bruns pounced on the loose ball and tapped it into the net with 21:27 remaining in the half.
Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Ryan (Beavercreek/Dayton Carroll) protected the lead with saves of shots by Jenna Schreiber in the 29th minute, Ainsley Harris in the 33rd minute, and Breck McCloskey in the 36th minute. In the second half, Carley Wagasky tested Ryan in the opening minute only to see the Bishop keeper make the save, and a similar fate met shots by Liz Bellinger in the 51st and 58th minutes.
Ohio Wesleyan had a chance to increase its lead in the 83rd minute when Bruns broke open on the right side, but Bruns' shot hit the crossbar. Freshman forward Alex Foster (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) got to the rebound, but her follow shot skipped outside the left post.
Hope outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 19-17. Ryan made a season-high 11 saves in the Bishop goal.
