Junior wing David Rice (Cleveland/Parma Padua Franciscan) scored to bring Ohio Wesleyan within a single point, but Wittenberg pulled away for a North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Bishops on Saturday in Springfield.

The Tigers had opened up an early 11-5 lead as Cameron Harrison connected on a 3-pointer and a fast-break jumper, and after Rice and Wittenberg's Eddie Brown traded hoops, the hosts led by a 13-7 count.

Senior post Tony Carter (Cleveland/Parma Heights Holy Name) drilled a 3-pointer and Rice had a lay-in to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 13-12 at the 14:32 mark of the first half.

The Bishops were still within 18-15 after a 3-pointer by sophomore wing Jessee Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln), but Wittenberg scored the next 9 points, getting 3-pointers from Harrison and Jeff Queen.  Battle scored a pair of buckets to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 27-19, but the Tigers countered with a 13-2 run, holding Ohio Wesleyan to a single basket during a stretch of more than 5 minutes, to open up a 40-21 lead with 2:15 remaining.

Junior guard Henry Hinkle (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) had a 3-pointer and followed with a jumper during the final seconds of the half as the Bishops closed to within 43-28 at the intermission, and sophomore wing Isaac Ward (Circleville/Logan Elm) opened the second-half scoring with a free throw, but the margin would remain in double digits throughout the remainder of the game.

Hinkle led Ohio Wesleyan with 15 points and 5 assists.  The 15 points raised his career total to 1013 and made him the 34th Ohio Wesleyan men's basketball player to surpass the 1000-point mark.

Battle added 12 points, Rice scored 10 points, and Carter and senior post Cole Metzler (Canal Winchester) shared the team lead with 5 rebounds apiece.
