Ohio Wesleyan 3, Kenyon 0

Sophomore outside hitter Natalie Dieball (Cincinnati/Lakota East) led the Ohio Wesleyan offense with 14 kills as the Bishops swept Kenyon in a North Coast Athletic Conference match on Tuesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Bishops defeated the Owls by scores of 25-10, 25-12, 25-20.

Dieball delivered 2 kills as the Bishops reeled off 5 straight points to open the match, then had back-to-back aces as Ohio Wesleyan stretched the margin to 10-2.  Kenyon closed to within 10-5 after a kill by Olivia Gumz, but a 9-2 run that included 2 more Dieball kills and a kill and an ace from junior setter Lily Bechina (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) made it 19-7, and 2 more Dieball kills down the stretch helped the Bishops close out the set.

Two more Dieball kills and consecutive kills from senior middle blocker Claire Solberg (Huron) helped Ohio Wesleyan to a 7-3 lead in the second set, but the Owls rallied to within 10-7 on a kill by Mariyah Rumpca-Veronese.  Ohio Wesleyan countered with a 9-3 run that concluded with a kill and a block by freshman middle blocker Jordanne Shannon (Detroit, Mich./West Bloomfield), and Dieball added 2 more kills down the stretch, including set point that gave the Bishops a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set saw Kenyon break a 5-5 tie with a 4-0 burst that featured kills from Sophia Menke and Aura Barinas.  The Owls still led, 16-15, after a Gumz kill, but Ohio Wesleyan rattled off 4 straight points, getting kills from Dieball, sophomore outside hitter Mason Campbell (Columbus/Pickerington Central), and Solberg to take the lead for good, and Campbell had a kill and an ace to help the Bishops complete the sweep.

Dieball led the Bishops with 14 kills with only 2 errors in 30 swings for a .400 attack percentage.  Bechina finished with 30 assists.  Solberg recorded a team-high 4 blocks and sophomore defensive specialist Avery Krause (Cleveland/Holy Name) had 11 digs.
