Hanover 3, Ohio Wesleyan 2

Sophomore outside hitter Natalie Dieball (Cincinnati/Lakota East) and senior middle blocker Claire Solberg (Huron) recorded double-digit performances in kills, but Hanover rallied in the fifth set to take a non-conference match on Saturday in Hanover, Ind.

The Panthers won the match by scores of 22-25, 25-10, 25-16, 16-25, 15-13.

Solberg had a pair of kills to highlight a 5-1 run that gave Ohio Wesleyan an 11-5 lead in the first set.  With the score tied at 22, sophomore outside hitter Mason Campbell (Columbus/Pickerington Central) notched back-to-back kills before a Panther attack error ended the set.  The second set saw Dieball come through with a kill to bring the Bishops within 11-10, but Ohio Wesleyan did not score again as Hanover reeled off 14 straight points to finish the set and even the match, getting 4 kills apiece from Brooklyn York and Elliot Mays along the way.  The Panthers built a 9-7 lead on a Madison Schicker service ace in the third set and kept the lead in the neighborhood of 5 points throughout the remainder of the set to take a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth set, Ohio Wesleyan broke an 11-11 tie with a block by senior middle blocker Ava Kutilek (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and freshman middle blocker Jordanne Shannon (Detroit, Mich./West Bloomfield), kicking off an 8-1 burst that also included 3 kills and a block from Dieball and a kill and a block by Solberg.

With the score tied at 8 in the fifth set, Ohio Wesleyan took the lead with 3 straight points, capped by a Solberg block.  The Bishops led, 12-10, after a Dieball kill, but Hanover scored the next 4 points as Mays turned in 2 kills and a block, and after a Dieball kill made it 14-13, it was Mays who came through with a match-ending kill.

Dieball led the Bishops with 20 kills, and Solberg finished with 10 kills and a team-high 6 blocks.  Junior setter Lily Bechina (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) finished with 30 assists.  Sophomore defensive specialist Avery Krause (Cleveland/Holy Name) had 23 digs.
