Senior forward Franklin Rodriguez (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Berkshire (Mass.)) scored a pair of goals to stake Ohio Wesleyan to a 2-0 lead, and the Bishops went on to defeat Catholic in a first-round game of the NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday in Fredericksburg, Va.

Ohio Wesleyan advances to face host Mary Washington, a 3-1 winner over William Peace (N.C.) on Saturday, in a second-round match at 1 p.m. on Sunday.  The winner of the Ohio Wesleyan-Mary Washington game will move on to a third-round contest to be held either Friday, Nov. 22, or Saturday, Nov. 23.

Rodriguez found the Cardinal goal on the Bishops' first shot of the game, taking a crossing pass from senior forward Jaggar Brooker (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and scoring in the seventh minute.

Rodriguez and Brooker each had looks at the Catholic goal during the first half, but Cardinal keeper Owen Allegro was there for the save each time.

Rodriguez made it 2-0 with a goal 10 minutes into the second half, heading a centering pass from freshman back Alex Bucher (Centerville) into the Cardinal goal.

Catholic closed to within 2-1 when Michael Hanlon headed home a corner kick by Corey Magro in the 66th minute.

Just over 2 minutes later, Catholic's Ryan Kuegler lined up a shot at the equalizer, but junior goalkeeper Sam Whitman (Baltimore, Md./Friends School of Baltimore) made the stop.  Whitman also recorded a save on a shot by Andrew Lowman in the 82nd minute.

Catholic outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 19-9.  Whitman finished with 4 saves.
