Junior forward Ava Bruns (Delaware/Hayes) put the Bishops on the scoreboard and sophomore midfielder Kaia Vorenkamp (Chapel Hill, N.C./Durham Academy) added an insurance goal as Ohio Wesleyan defeated John Carroll in non-conference play on Saturday at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.

Each team had an early chance to take the lead.  John Carroll's Meredith Coloian lined up a shot from outside the penalty area in the second minute, only to see junior goalkeeper Natalie Ryan (Beavercreek/Dayton Carroll) tip the drive over the crossbar.  Ohio Wesleyan countered with a header by senior defender Kaylee DeShong (Canal Winchester) after a corner kick in the eighth minute, but the Blue Streak defense cleared the ball off the line.

Ryan and John Carroll keeper Madeline Martin each made 3 more saves during the first half to keep the game scoreless.

The Bishops took the lead in the 62nd minute when sophomore forward Jordyn Adams (Carroll/Bloom-Carroll) made a long run up the left side and centered the ball to Bruns, who headed it home.

Adams set up the Bishops' second goal as well, crossing the ball to Vorenkamp, whose header found the back of the net in the 69th minute.

Ohio Wesleyan outshot John Carroll, 18-10.  Ryan finished with 8 saves in the Bishop goal.
