Volleyball Rallies to Defeat Albion

Sophomore outside hitter Natalie Dieball (Cincinnati/Lakota East) collected 9 kills during the final 3 sets to help Ohio Wesleyan rally from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Albion during the first day of the MIAA/NCAC Challenge, hosted by Calvin University on Friday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Bishops defeated the Britons by scores of 22-25, 16-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-12.

In the first set, the Britons broke a 16-16 tie with a 6-2 run that included a kill by Bri Whitfield and a solo block from Kayda Herrick to open up the biggest lead of the match, then got a pair of kills from Carly Frank down the stretch.  Albion won the second set as Herrick came through with kills for the Britons' final 3 points.

Ohio Wesleyan kept the match going with a win in the third set, breaking a 15-15 tie with a 10-3 run to close the set, with freshman outside hitter Megan Lantis (Wooster) contributing 2 kills during that run, and closed out the fourth set with a 13-3 run that included 2 kills, 2 aces, and a block by senior middle blocker Claire Solberg (Huron) and 2 kills and an ace by Dieball.

In the fifth set, Solberg, Dieball, and Lantis came through with kills as Ohio Wesleyan broke an 8-8 tie before Dieball closed out the match with a kill.

Dieball led the Bishops with 14 kills, while Lantis finished with 12.  Junior setter Lily Bechina (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) recorded 43 assists.  Solberg finished with 3 blocks and junior defensive specialist Bella Guzzetta (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River) led the Bishops with 20 digs.
