Senior middle blocker Claire Solberg (Huron) and sophomore outside hitter Natalie Dieball (Cincinnati/Lakota East) led the Ohio Wesleyan offense, but second-ranked Hope and 18th-ranked Calvin swept the Bishops during the second day of the MIAA/NCAC Challenge, hosted by Calvin University on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Hope defeated the Bishops by scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-14, and Calvin won by scores of 25-15, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21.

Against Hope, Solberg teamed up with junior setter Lily Bechina (Chicago, Ill./Jones College Prep) on a block, then came through with a kill to cap an early 5-0 run that gave the Bishops a 10-6 lead.  The set was tied at 21 when kills from Alison DeWeerd and Brooke Fox put the Flying Dutch ahead, and Hope got the final 2 points to take the set.  The second set saw Solberg deliver a kill to even the score at 21.  Kills by Bechina and Solberg brought Ohio Wesleyan within 23-22 and 24-23 respectively, but Hope's Addie VanderWeide followed with a kill to give the Dutch a 2-0 lead in the match.  VanderWeide had 4 kills as Hope raced to an early 6-2 lead in the third set.  A Solberg ace brought the Bishops within 15-10, but VanderWeide answered with a kill and DeWeerd followed with a kill and a block as Hope pulled away.

Solberg led the Bishops with 8 kills and 3 blocks, while Dieball followed with 7 kills.  Bechina collected 18 assists and junior defensive specialist Bella Guzzetta (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River) led the Bishops with 14 digs.

In the first set against Calvin, Dieball and senior middle blocker Ava Kutilek (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) teamed up on a block that brought Ohio Wesleyan within 9-6, but the Knights gradually pulled away, closing the set with a 10-5 run that included 2 kills from Aerin Baker.  The Bishops were within 14-11 after a Solberg kill in the second set, but the Knights assembled a 6-0 run that featured kills by Emma Ekblaw and Baker on the way to a 2-0 lead.  Ohio Wesleyan trailed, 6-2, in the third set but stormed back with a 7-1 run that included back-to-back aces by Kutilek and kills from Dieball and senior right-side hitter Grace Cummings (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne), and the Bishops would hold off a late Calvin charge to win the set and extend the match.  Ohio Wesleyan was within 18-17 in the fourth set after consecutive aces from sophomore defensive specialist Avery Krause (Cleveland/Holy Name), and the Bishops were within 22-20 after a Kutilek block, but Calvin withstood the threat to finish off the match on an Avery Ekkens ace.

Dieball had a team-high 11 kills, while Solberg finished with 9.  Bechina had a team-high 19 assists, Kutilek led the Bishops with 4 blocks, and Krause had a team-best 17 digs.
