Bishops Drop 1-0 Defensive Battle in OT at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Ohio Wesleyan University field hockey team traveled to Depauw Saturday morning, looking to stay undefeated in conference play. The match was a defensive battle throughout, with neither team able to break through in regulation. Depauw struck in the extra period, finding the back of the cage five minutes in to claim a 1-0 victory.  

OWU drops to 4-5, 3-1 in the NCAC. DePauw improves to 6-3, 3-0 in conference.

The Battling Bishops generated several chances throughout the contest, taking 16 shots, with 13 being on goal, but were unable to convert. 

In the 65th minute, DePauw's Hannah Zaiser received a pass from Hailey Nowak and delivered, making the final scoreline 1-0. 

A defensive front led by Emma Morgeson, Katie Conway, and Catherine Kent anchored the Red and Black throughout the contest. 

THE NUMBERS
OWU outshot DePauw 16-10, including a 13-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Bishops generating chances were Avery Slucher (4 SH, 3 SOG), Mattison Hyland (4 SH, 3 SOG), Emma Reynolds (2 SH, 2 SOG), and Violette Alcantar (2 SH, 1 SOG). Morgan Leeper, Emma Morgeson, Mary Powers and Emma Wright all contributed one shot on goal. 

OWU earned eight penalty corners compared to DePauw's 11.

Payton Mindel (4-5) got the start and played the full 60+ minutes, making seven saves.

The Bishops continue conference play Wednesday, as they host Kenyon inside Selby Stadium. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
