Bishops Cruise Past Oberlin 3-0, Secure Share of NCAC Regular Season Title

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University field hockey team traveled to Oberlin on Saturday morning, looking to close out the regular season with another conference win. The Battling Bishops would do just that, rolling past Oberlin 3-0 and increasing their winning streak to six. With the win, the Bishops finish the regular season tied for first in the NCAC, sharing the regular season championship with both DePauw and Denison. The Bishops will have a chance to defend their conference tournament title next week as the top seed after a few tiebreakers.

OWU finishes 10-5 overall on the year, with a 8-1 record in the NCAC. Oberlin ends the season 4-9, and 1-8 in conference.

The Red and Black got on the board first in the 23rd minute, as Sophomore Mary Powers buried her team-leading 10th goal of the year. Powers' strike would serve as the only scoring in the first half of play.

Following the break, the Bishops were eager to bolster their lead. In the 51st minute, OWU earned their second penalty stroke of the contest, where freshman Zoë Smith was called upon in hopes of bouncing back from a previous wide attempt. Smith delivered, scoring her fourth goal of the season–all coming via penalty strokes. Just two minutes later, another Bishop freshman shined, as Violette Alcantar found the back of the cage for the second time this year. Oberlin was unable to respond, leaving the final scoreline 3-0.
