NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 19th/16th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University women's basketball team took the court in Tennessee on Friday, taking on Berry in their first game of the Music City Classic. The Batting Bishops took advantage of a strong first half to claim their sixth-straight victory, 61-44.
OWU moves to 7-1 on the season while Berry drops to 6-5.
The Red and Black came out hot, shooting 9-for-15 (60.0%) in the first quarter including 3-for-4 (75.0%) from three-point range to outscore the Vikings 21-12.
Ohio Wesleyan would grow their lead to 15 by the half with another great shooting quarter in the second, taking a 36-21 advantage into the break. The Bishops not only matched their three-point output from the first quarter with another 3-for-4 mark, but also surpassed their season-high for three-pointers made with six in just the first half.
The Battling Bishops rode that 15-point lead to victory in the second half, ultimately adding two points to it throughout the latter two quarters for a 61-44 win. It was a true team effort through-and-through as eight Bishops got on the board with three double-digit scorers.
THE NUMBERS
Kendall Dieringer led the scoring efforts with a career-high 13 points including a career-high four three-pointers. She shot 50.0% overall (4-of-8) and from three (3-of-6) to go along with three rebounds.
Alyssa Griner recorded 12 points on 5-for-10 shooting and pulled down a game-high eight boards with two steals, one block, and one assist.
Macy Miller scored 10 points with five rebounds, four steals, and two assists.
Mia Guscoff finished with nine points on 3-for-5 from three-point range as well as one assist.
Katie Neuhart tallied six points, two rebounds, one block, and one assist.
Maddie Ebbert ended her night with five points and five rebounds alongside three assists and two steals.
Nora Johns scored four points with one rebound and one steal.
Claire Wakim had two points with one rebound and one steal.
