ADRIAN, Mich. – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's soccer team traveled to Michigan for a midday match with Adrian on Sunday. The Battling Bishops would leave with a 1-0 win thanks to a 48th minute goal from
Beatrice Douglas-Arnold.
After a scoreless first half, the Bishops would finally break onto the board after receiving a corner kick about three minutes into the second half.
Ava Bruns would take the kick, serving it to the back post to the awaiting Douglas-Arnold who headed it in for the Red and Black's first score of the season.
OWU would hold off the Bulldogs for the remaining 42 minutes to secure the 1-0 victory.
With the win, Ohio Wesleyan rises to 1-1-0 on the new season. Adrian drops to 1-1-0 as well.
THE NUMBERS
The Battling Bishops held a slight advantage on the offensive end, outshooting Adrian 12-11 overall and 9-6 in shots on target.
Beatrice Douglas-Arnold netted the first goal of her young career, scoring in just her second game for the Bishops. It was her lone shot of the game.
Kaia Vorenkamp took three chances, putting two on target.
Mackenzie Smith had two shots, both on goal.
Tiffany Trinh,
Halle Dacek, and
Jordyn Adams each took one shot, all online.
Katie Adams and
Avery Curtin both had one attempt fall offline.
OWU's defensive front highlighted by Douglas-Arnold,
Ava Kolettis,
Caroline Prahst,
Lily VanOrmer, and
Izzy Trahey-Matzen forced the first shutout of the season.
Natalie Ryan (1-1-0) secured her first clean sheet of the season, playing the full 90 minutes and making six saves.
