Bishops Outmatched by No. 4 Christopher Newport

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University field hockey team hosted the 4th-ranked team in the country Christopher Newport on Saturday morning, ultimately being outmatched 6-0.

OWU falls to 2-3 on the season. Christopher Newport moves to 5-0.

The Battling Bishops found themselves on the defensive side of the field for the majority of the game, only able to get two shots off – one on goal – and having the opportunity for just one penalty corner. On the other side, CNU got off 27 shots – 17 on target – and had eight penalty corners. Christopher Newport put in three goals in each half, scoring in the 14th minute, the 20th, the 23rd, the 49th, the 52nd, and the 59th on the way to a 6-0 final scoreline.

THE NUMBERS
Emma Wright and Avery Slucher were the only Bishops able to get shots off with one each, Wright's being on goal as well.

Payton Mindel (2-3) faced a busy day in the cage, playing the full 60 minutes and making a career-high 11 saves.

UP NEXT
The Bishops will be back in action on Tuesday as they continue conference play at home against Washington & Jefferson. That game is set to get going at 4 p.m.
