Bishops Shutout Scots, Celebrating Senior Day with 4-0 Win

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University field hockey team celebrated senior day as they hosted Wooster Saturday morning. The Battling Bishops controlled the contest, taking a season-high 51 shots compared to Wooster's seven, ultimately lifting them to their third conference victory, 4-0.   

Prior to the game, seniors Quinn Dachisen, Alyssa Markell, Emma Morgeson, Avery Slucher, and Emma Wright received recognition for their contributions to the Ohio Wesleyan field hockey program over the last four years. 

OWU improves to 4-4, 3-0 in the NCAC. Wooster drops to 2-4, 2-2 in conference.

Mary Powers put OWU on the board in the ninth minute, as she found the back of the cage courtesy of an assist from Emma Wright. In the 24th minute, Brogan Heilig received a pass from Emma Reynolds and buried the ball in the cage, and the Bishops took a 2-0 lead. 

After halftime, Alyssa Markell set up Emma Wright for a goal of her own, and she delivered, pushing the lead to three. Heilig was not done in the contest, as she tacked on her second goal in the 54th minute, and the Bishops were comfortably in control. 

Wooster was unable to respond, leaving the final scoreline at 4-0. 

THE NUMBERS
The Bishops were all offense, outshooting the Fighting Scots 51-7, including a 19-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Brogan Heilig led the Bishop offense, taking 10 shots, accounting for two goals and four points. She now has six goals and a total of 12 points on the season.

Emma Wright tallied 16 shots, finding the net once for her third goal of the season. 

Mary Powers recorded one goal and two points, totaling seven goals and 15 points on the year.

Allyssa Markell recorded her first assist and point of the season.

Emma Reynolds notched her first assist and point of the year.

Others generating chances were Avery Slucher (7 SH, 3 SOG), Mattison Hyland (5 SH), Violette Alcantar (4 SH), Grace Ammon (2 SH), Quinn Dachisen (2 SH), Emma Morgeson (1 SH), and Ava Zimmer (1 SH).

OWU earned 18 penalty corners compared to Wooster's five.

Payton Mindel (4-4) got the start, playing the full 60 minutes and securing her fourth win of the season. She made four saves.

The Bishops continue conference play Saturday as they travel to DePauw. The game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
