CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's basketball team continued conference action Wednesday night, traveling to Wabash for a matchup with the Little Giants. The Battling Bishops struggled to find their offensive rhythm in the first half, heading into the break trailing 42-24. The deficit proved too much to overcome, as the Bishops ultimately fell 82-67.
OWU drops to 5-10, 2-4 in NCAC competition. Wabash advances to 11-4, and 5-1 in conference play.
Both teams traded baskets early and were knotted at 12 just over six minutes into the contest. However, Wabash seized the momentum moments later, outscoring the Red and Black 30-12 over the remainder of the half. OWU struggled to find consistency in the first half, shooting just 27.03% from the field compared to Wabash's 54.84%. The Bishops headed into the intermission trailing 42-24.
Following halftime, the Bishop offense looked to chip away at a sizable margin. However, Wabash maintained control throughout the second half.
Peyton Frey knocked down two free throws to trim the deficit to eight with 1:29 remaining, but that was as close as the Red and Black would get. Ohio Wesleyan dropped its fourth NCAC contest of the season, falling 82-67.
THE NUMBERS
OWU shot 34.4% from the field, and 27.8% from beyond the arc.
Isaac Ward led the Bishop offense with 14 points. Ward also added two rebounds.
Peyton Frey scored 13 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished three assists.
Kevin Gallagher had 11 points, including three triples. He added two assists and two steals.
Phil Wallace tallied 10 points and three rebounds off the bench.
Jake Lowman contributed nine points, all via the three, and a team-high 13 rebounds.
James McCarthy had four points and two assists.
Jessee Battle and
Quinn Hart each had three points. Battle recorded two rebounds and two steals.
