Late Push Puts No. 14/12 Bishops Past Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – The 14th/12th-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University women's basketball team traveled to Wooster on Saturday afternoon seeking its 13th consecutive win and hoping to stay unbeaten in NCAC action. Despite a third-quarter comeback attempt by Wooster, the Battling Bishops pulled away in the final period, outscoring the Fighting Scots 22-12 to secure a 71-59 victory.

OWU improves to 14-1 overall, and 5-0 within NCAC play. Wooster drops to 9-7, with a 1-4 mark in conference. 

The Red and Black opened the game slowly, shooting just 4-for-12 in the first quarter, yet still held a 15-14 lead over Wooster at the end of the period. With seven minutes remaining before halftime, the Bishops trailed 21-17, but quickly seized momentum, closing the half on an 18-9 run to take a seven-point lead into the break. Alyssa Griner led the Bishops' offensive surge with nine points. 

Following halftime, Wooster worked to chip away at the deficit, as the Fighting Scots outscored the Bishops 19-14 in the third quarter to trim the OWU lead to two. With momentum seemingly on Wooster's side, OWU needed a response to close out the road contest. The Red and Black showed why they are a top-ranked squad, outscoring Wooster 22-12 in the final quarter behind nine points from Macy Miller and six from Maddie Ebbert. Ohio Wesleyan picks up their 13th consecutive victory, 71-59.

THE NUMBERS
The Bishops shot 40% from the field, going 24-for-60. OWU drained four triples, including two from Nora Johns and one each from Mia Guscoff and Carly Lehman.

Macy Miller led the Bishop offense with her seventh-straight double-double and 13th of the year, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. She added six blocks, four steals, and two assists.

Maddie Ebbert scored 14 points along with nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals. 

Alyssa Griner added 13 points and four rebounds. 

Kendall Dieringer tallied 12 points and two assists. 

Nora Johns finished with six points and two rebounds

Mia Guscoff and Carly Lehman each recorded three points. Lehman grabbed four rebounds as well. 

Katie Neuhart contributed two points.
