Bishops Put Up Triple-Digits on the Road for the First Time Since 1994

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's basketball team hit the road to take on John Carroll for the first time as conference opponents on Wednesday night. In a high-scoring affair, the Battling Bishops shot the lights out to put up triple-digits on the road for the first time since February 1994, winning 106-90.

OWU improves to 5-8 overall and picks up their second NCAC win of the season, now 2-3 in conference play. JCU drops to 10-4, also 2-3 in the NCAC.

The game got off to a quick start with no stoppages until the 12:28 mark as the two sides combined for 42 points before the first media timeout. At that point, John Carroll held a slim 23-19 lead. The Bishops kept the deficit within a few points for the next five minutes before finally pushing ahead around the seven-minute mark. 

From there, the Red and Black ended the half on a 19-8 run to take a 46-39 advantage into the half. Ohio Wesleyan shot 7-for-11 overall and 3-for-4 from three during the surge, led by Jake Lowman with six points and Isaac Ward with five. All-in-all the Bishops shot 47.2% (17-for-36) from the field and 46.2% (6-for-13) from three.

The Battling Bishops grew their lead to 22 within the first five minutes of the second half, starting on a 23-8 run. Lowman led the charge with seven points, followed by Kevin Gallagher with five. The Red and Black advantage reached its high-point of 23 with 4:04 left before ultimately settling at 16 before the final buzzer, 106-90. The Bishops shot a remarkable 69.0% (20-for-29) in the second half with a 61.5% (8-for-13) clip from behind the arc.

THE NUMBERS
The Bishops had their best shooting night of the season, going 56.9% (37-for-65) from the field and 53.8% (14-for-26) from three-point range. OWU also had five players in double-digits.

Isaac Ward led all scorers with 21 points on 6-for-9 from the field and a season-high 4-for-6 from deep. He also had two rebounds and one assist.

Jake Lowman notched his first career double-double with career-highs 19 points and 10 rebounds. He was 7-for-11 shooting including 2-for-4 from three, adding a career-high-tying six assists as well as one block.

Kevin Gallagher recorded a career-high 15 points on 5-for-10 from the field and a career-high 4-for-6 from three-point range alongside four assists, two rebounds, and one steal.

Peyton Frey and Jessee Battle both finished with 14 points. Frey was 6-for-9 overall and 2-for-4 from three with four rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal. Battle tallied six rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal.

James McCarthy and Quinn Hart came away with seven points apiece. Hart had an additional three rebounds, three assists, and one steal while McCarthy had two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
