DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's soccer team (1-4-4, 0-0-0 NCAC) wrapped up their non-conference schedule on Saturday against Adrian (4-4-1, 0-0-0 MIAA) as the nightcap of Alumni & Family Weekend at
Jay Martin Soccer Complex. The Battling Bishops tallied two goals in the first half and another in the second but it would not be enough as the Bulldogs matched with three goals of their own in the 3-3 result.
Ohio Wesleyan first broke through in the 23rd minute when
Carter Flynn netted one into the lower left following a quick set up by
Jordan Domoe and
Luis Canas. OWU made it 2-0 with just 16 seconds left in the first half as
Aedan Costa capped off a Bishops' break with a chip into the upper right, assisted by
Brady Catanzarite and
Callum Wiggins.
Adrian notched their first of the game in the 68th minute to pull back within one at 2-1. Minutes later, Vittoria Renda canceled it out with the Red and Black's third on a well-taken penalty. Unfortunately, the 3-1 lead was not safe as the Bulldogs scored back-to-back goals in the 74th and 82nd minutes to close the game out in a 3-3 tie.
THE NUMBERS
Ohio Wesleyan held an advantage in overall attempts at 20-14 and shots on goal at 10-4. OWU also was awarded the majority of corners at 10-3. The Bishops made one save compared to seven for the Bulldogs.
Carter Flynn scored his second goal of the season, moving into a three-way tie for the team lead.
Aedan Costa and
Vittorio Renda tallied their first career goals.
Jordan Domoe,
Luis Canas,
Callum Wiggins, and
Brady Catanzarite recorded an assist each.
Zach Hertzberg (0-3-3) made one save throughout his 90 minutes in the net.
