Battling Bishops Blank Maryville

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's tennis team secured their first win of the spring on Friday afternoon, sweeping Maryville 7-0 in a neutral-site match at the Western Athletic Club in Cincinnati.

OWU improves to 3-1 on the year, remaining 0-1 in the NCAC. Maryville drops their first dual of the year, starting 0-1.

The Battling Bishops took the first point of the afternoon with three wins in doubles. Emma Pzedpelski and Marissa Zaleski had the most dominant performance of the three in match two, winning 6-1. Daniela Guzman and Maybellene McNamara were next with a 6-4 win in match three. Finally, Mallory Hannan and Lily Hershey needed a tiebreaker in match one, but came away with the 7-6 (7-3) win.

The Red and Black continued their hot streak in singles with another sweep, taking the remaining six points for a 7-0 match win. Hershey conceded only two games in match two, winning 6-2, 6-0. Pzedpelski, Guzman, and McNamara each conceded just three games. Pzedpelski pulled off a 6-3, 6-0 result in match three while both Guzman and McNamara recorded 6-2, 6-1 wins in matches five and six. Hannan nabbed a win in match one with a 7-5, 6-2 score. Finally, Evaleigh Garnett took match four 6-4, 7-6.
