Bishops Swept in Spring-Opener

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's tennis team opened up their spring season with their first match in the newly-renovated Gordon Field House on Sunday, hosting 16th-ranked Kenyon. Unfortunately, the Owls would end up getting the best of the Battling Bishops, taking a 7-0 sweep.

OWU loses their first match of the season, now 2-1 and starting off 0-1 in NCAC play. Kenyon stays undefeated at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The day started off sour with three losses in doubles play, giving Kenyon one point. The duo of Evaleigh Garnett and Marissa Zaleski as well as the duo Daniela Guzman and Maybellene McNamara lost 6-1 in matches two and three. The pair of Lily Hershey and Emma Pzedpelski was on the wrong side of a 6-0 result in match one.

Unfortunately, singles saw a similar result with Kenyon taking all six matches and thus the six remaining points available. McNamara made it difficult for her opponent but would ultimately concede 6-1, 6-4 in match five. Guzman managed a few wins but fell 6-2, 6-1 in match four. Hershey avoided a shutout at 6-0, 6-2 in match one. Pzedpelski, Garnett, and Riley Brokaw were on the wrong side of 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in matches two, three, and six.
