DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's tennis team opened up their spring season with their first match in the newly-renovated Gordon Field House on Sunday, hosting 16th-ranked Kenyon. Unfortunately, the Owls would end up getting the best of the Battling Bishops, taking a 7-0 sweep.
OWU loses their first match of the season, now 2-1 and starting off 0-1 in NCAC play. Kenyon stays undefeated at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The day started off sour with three losses in doubles play, giving Kenyon one point. The duo of
Evaleigh Garnett and
Marissa Zaleski as well as the duo
Daniela Guzman and
Maybellene McNamara lost 6-1 in matches two and three. The pair of
Lily Hershey and
Emma Pzedpelski was on the wrong side of a 6-0 result in match one.
Unfortunately, singles saw a similar result with Kenyon taking all six matches and thus the six remaining points available. McNamara made it difficult for her opponent but would ultimately concede 6-1, 6-4 in match five. Guzman managed a few wins but fell 6-2, 6-1 in match four. Hershey avoided a shutout at 6-0, 6-2 in match one. Pzedpelski, Garnett, and
Riley Brokaw were on the wrong side of 6-0, 6-0 sweeps in matches two, three, and six.

The Battling Bishops will take a trip down to Cincinnati on Friday to play Maryville. That match is set to get going at 4 p.m.
