DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team hosted Transylvania for a matinee matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Battling Bishops put up a season-high 21 goals and held their opponents to a season-low four goals to run away with a dominating win.
The Red and Black advance to 6-1 on the season. Transylvania descends to 4-7.
It was all OWU from the get-go as the Bishops outscored the Pioneers 8-1 in the opening quarter. It started with a five-goal run of
Lila Hall,
Julia Kingsly, Hall again,
Brie Colangelo, and Kinglsy again.
Emma Reynolds and
Riley Riordan followed with a three-goal run a few minutes later, with Reynolds scoring the first two.
Ohio Wesleyan would continue to hold Transylvania to just one goal in each of the remaining three quarters, outscoring the Pioneers 2-1 in the second, 7-1 in the third, and 4-1 in the fourth.
Jillian Andreas and Kingsly were responsible for the two goals in the remainder of the first half. Kingsly scored again to start the third quarter.
The Bishops put together their longest run of the game in the latter two-thirds of the third quarter and the first part of the fourth quarter, scoring eight in a row.
Jules Kyle tallied three in the streak, Colangelo had two, and
Tiffany Trinh, Reynolds, and Hall picked up the other three. Reynolds and Colangelo closed out the 21-4 win with the final two goals of the game.
THE NUMBERS
Ohio Wesleyan held a 38-13 advantage in shots overall, and 30-10 in shots on goal. The Battling Bishops also directly caused 13 turnovers, picked up 16 ground balls, and went 15-for-18 on clears and 13-for-26 on draw controls.
Brie Colangelo led OWU with six points on four goals and two assists.
Jules Kyle,
Emma Reynolds, and
Julia Kingsly all recorded career-highs of five points. Reynolds and Kingsly both scored career-highs of four goals and added an assist each. Kyle tied her career high of three goals and dished out two assists. Reynolds caused a career-high three turnovers, grabbed four ground balls, and secured two draw controls. Kyle caused one turnover. Kingsly scooped up one ground ball.
Lila Hall scored three goals and grabbed one ground ball and one draw control.
Riley Riordan nabbed two points on one goal and one assist.
Tiffany Trinh and
Jillian Andreas each scored one goal. Trinh tallied four goals, three caused turnovers, and one draw control. Andreas secured one ground ball.
Abbie Grogan was a force at the defensive end with three caused turnovers, six ground balls, and seven draw controls.
Jaelyn Cooper recorded two caused turnovers and one ground ball.
Morgan Leeper (6-1) got the start in the cage and played the first 45 minutes of the winning decision, making five saves.
Cadence Jobe made her second appearance of the season and played the final 15 minutes, making one save.
