DELAWARE and WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's tennis team played two matches over the weekend, first hosting Ohio Northern on Saturday and then traveling to Otterbein on Sunday. The Battling Bishops would drop both matches, suffering a shutout to the Polar Bears and coming up short at 4-3 to the Cardinals.
The Bishops slip to 6-7 overall.
OHIO WESLEYAN 0, OHIO NORTHERN 7
The weekend started the wrong way on Saturday as the Bishops were shut out 7-0 by Ohio Northern. It started with a sweep in doubles.
Marcus Bode and
Gabe Fogle came the closest to a win at 6-4 in match two.
Ian Tsai and
Kobe Francis lost 6-3 in match one, and
Rainer Holl and
Zach Heister lost 6-2 in match three.
ONU swept the remaining six matches in singles to take the match 7-0. Fogle fell just short of a victory in match two via tiebreak, losing 6-2, 5-7, 0-1 (7-10). Holl and Heister suffered identical 6-2, 6-2 losses in matches four and six. Francis lost 6-3, 6-3 in match five. Bode dropped match three 6-3, 6-4. Tsain suffered a 6-0, 6-3 result in match one.
OHIO WESLEYAN 3, OTTERBEIN 4
The Battling Bishops did their best to bounce back on Sunday but again fell short at 3-4. OWU would take the doubles point 2-1 with wins from the pairs
Kobe Francis and
Ian Tsai as well as
Zach Heister and
Rainer Holl, 6-1 and 6-2 in matches one and three.
Marcus Bode and
Gabe Fogle fell 6-4 in match two.
Despite having the advantage, the Bishops were unable to scrape together three wins in singles, instead settling for two. Tsai took match one on tiebreak 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. Heister recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win in match six. Unfortunately, the remaining four matches went the way of Otterbein. Fogle fell via tiebreak 4-6, 6-4, 6-10 in match three. Francis fell 6-3, 7-6 in match five. Holl lost 6-3, 6-1 in match four. Bode dropped match two 6-2, 6-1.
UP NEXT
The Battling Bishops continue conference play on Thursday, traveling to NCAC-newcomer John Carroll. A start time for that match has yet to be determined.
