DELAWARE and WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's tennis team played two matches over the weekend, first hosting Ohio Northern on Saturday and then traveling to Otterbein on Sunday. The Battling Bishops were shut out by the Polar Bears 7-0 but bounced back to beat the Cardinals 6-1.
The Bishops improve to 9-4 on the season with four matches to play, all against NCAC opponents.
OHIO WESLEYAN 0, OHIO NORTHERN 7
The weekend got off to a sour start on Saturday as the Bishops were shut out 7-0 by Ohio Northern. It started with a sweep in doubles.
Daniela Guzman and Marissa Zelski managed the only game-win of OWU in doubles, losing 6-1 in match three.
Mallory Hannan and
Lily Hershey as well
Frankie Nuss and
Emma Pzedpelski lost matches one and two 6-0.
ONU took the remaining singles six matches to finish off the shutout. Guzman took match six to a tiebreak, coming the closest to a win for Ohio Wesleyan, but ultimately lost 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 0-1 (10-7). Hannan and Pzedpelski lost matches one and four by identical scores of 6-1, 6-2. Hershey suffered a 6-1, 6-4 loss in match three.
Evaleigh Garnett was on the wrong side of a 6-3, 6-1 result in match five. Nuss lost match two 6-3, 6-0.

The Battling Bishops bounced back on Sunday with a 6-1 win at Otterbein.
Mallory Hannan and
Lily Hershey along with
Marissa Zaleski and
Daniela Guzman started strong with 6-2 wins in doubles matches one and three to take the point. OWU came close to a doubles sweep but
Frankie Nuss and
Emma Pzedpelski were edged out 7-6 in match two.
The Bishops secured the win with five victories in singles, led by Guzman with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in match six. Hannan and Pzedpelski pulled off respective 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2 wins in matches one and four.
Evaleigh Garnett took match five by a score of 6-4, 6-1. Nuss nabbed a tiebreak win in match two 7-6 (5-0), 4-6, 1-0 (5-0). The only loss came in match three where Hershey suffered a tiebreak loss 2-6, 6-2, 6-10.
UP NEXT
The Battling Bishops continue conference play on Thursday, traveling to NCAC-newcomer John Carroll. A start time for that match has yet to be determined.
