Bishops Power Past Polar Bears in Home-Opener, 18-4

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team hosted Ohio Northern for their home-opener on Wednesday night at Selby Stadium. The Battling Bishops started hot and never turned back, taking an 18-4 victory.

OWU improves to 3-0 on the year while ONU falls back to .500 at 3-3.

The Red and Black cracked off four goals and held Ohio Northern to none in the opening period, taking a quick 4-0 advantage with four different goal-scorers. Brie Colangelo got things going at the 11-minute mark, soon followed by Julia Kingsly two-and-a-half minutes later. Sam Frary found the net for the third around the eight-minute mark with an assist from Lila Hall. Finally, Jules Kyle concluded the quarter with her first career goal at 3:13 left, assisted by Abbie Grogan.

The Polar Bears put a momentary stop to the Ohio Wesleyan run with their first of the game at the 10:52 mark in the second quarter, but the floodgates soon opened again as the Battling Bishops tacked on six-straight in a run that lasted well into the third quarter. Two of those goals came before the half, giving the Bishops a 6-1 lead at the break. Frary scored the first – assisted by Kingsly – followed by Kingsly on the second – assisted by Colangelo.

Kyle continued the run with OWU's first goal of the third quarter, coming off of an assist from Emma Reynolds. Next was Colegelo with a pair to complete her hat trick, the first being assisted by Kyle. Kingsly completed her hat trick soon after on an assist from Colangelo, finishing off the 6-0 run with 7:26 left in the third before the Polar Bears put up their second of the game with 5:04 left. Reynolds and Jackie Harper recorded the final two goals of the period to put the Bishops up 12-2 heading into the final 15 minutes.

Ohio Northern netted their third of the game to start out the fourth quarter, but that was quickly canceled out by Kyle completing her hat trick about a minute later. The goal by Kyle kicked off a three goal run when Riley Riordan and Hanna Brozell collected their first career goals. ONU scored their fourth and final goal of the game with 8:14 left before Riordan and Brozell were back at it with two more. Jillian Andreas finished off the night with her first of the season with 52 seconds left, leaving the final score at 18-4.
