DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's tennis team continued conference play on Saturday, hosting DePauw University. The Battling Bishops struggled on the day, taking just one match and ultimately falling to the Tigers 6-1.
OWU drops to 6-10 on the season, with a 1-4 record in NCAC competition. DePauw advances to 13-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
The day started off with three losses in doubles play, giving the Tigers one point. The duo of
Kobe Francis and
Ian Tsai dropped match one, 6-4.
Gabe Fogle and
Marcus Bode lost match two by a score of 6-3. At the No. 3 spot,
Rainer Holl and
Zach Heister came up short, losing 6-2.
Singles play mirrored the morning's results, with DePauw securing five of the six matches to claim five more points. Tsai put up a strong fight in the No. 1 singles match, taking the first set 6-3 before dropping set two 6-2, and the decisive tiebreaker 12-10. Fogle nabbed the Bishops' lone point in match two, winning set one 6-3, losing set two 6-2, but bouncing back to take the tiebreaker 10-8. Francis was next, who ultimately fell 6-1, 6-4. In the No. 4 singles spot, Bode was unable to take a set, losing 6-2, 6-1. Holl dropped match five, 6-2, 6-0. Heister concluded the tough day for the Red and Black, falling 6-3, 6-2.
