DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's tennis team continued conference play Friday, hosting Oberlin for Senior Day. The Battling Bishops fought hard but struggled to find a rhythm, ultimately falling to the Yeomen in a 7-0 sweep.
OWU drops to 6-12 on the season, with a 1-5 record in NCAC competition. Oberlin advances to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The senior duo of
Kobe Francis and
Rainer Holl were acknowledged for their contributions to the program.
The day started off with three losses in doubles play to give Oberlin one point.
Ian Tsai and Francis dropped game one, 6-1. The tandem of
Marcus Bode and
Gabe Fogle were next, who fell 6-2.
Zach Heister and Holl concluded doubles play for the Bishops, but ultimately lost 6-4.
Singles play showcased identical results, with Oberlin taking all six matches and claiming six more points. In the most competitive match of the day, Tsai pushed his opponent to the limit at No. 1 singles, taking the opening set before falling in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 0-6, 4-10. Fogle struggled to find rhythm in the second match, losing 6-1 and 6-3. Francis battled in the No. 3 singles match, but was ultimately outmatched, 7-6, 6-3. Bode was unable to take a set in match four, 6-0, 6-4. Holl dropped match five, 6-1, 6-2. Heister concluded a difficult day for the Bishops, losing 6-1, 6-3.
