Bishops Shut Down by John Carroll in Home Finale

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team hosted John Carroll for their final regular season home game at Selby Stadium on Tuesday. The Battling Bishops started strong – holding a 3-1 lead after the first quarter – but would be shut out for the final 46 minutes, ending in an 11-3 losing result.

With the loss, Ohio Wesleyan slips out of NCAC Tournament contention – two games out of fourth place with one game to play. The Bishops now stand at 8-6 overall and 2-4 in the NCAC. JCU moves to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play.

Despite a low-scoring game early on, the Red and Black looked to have an advantage in the first quarter. Emma Reynolds opened the scoring just before the nine-minute mark, followed by Julia Kingsly and Brie Colangelo going back-to-back a few minutes later for a 3-1 lead after one.

From there, OWU's offense came to a complete halt. Ohio Wesleyan struggled to get chances close to the cage – being met by up to three defenders in the interior – and had a few too many possessions end with turnovers. The few shots that the Battling Bishops were able to snap off were either off target or saved, resulting in 46 scoreless minutes.

On the other end, John Carroll claimed the lead in the second quarter and never looked back, putting up four in the second, one in the third, and five in the fourth for an 11-3 final score.
