Bishops Celebrate Senior Day, Earn Spot in NCAC Tournament

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's tennis team hosted Oberlin for the final match of the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field House. The day was senior day for the Battling Bishops as the program celebrated the careers, accomplishments, and contributions of seniors Riley Brokaw, Maisie Dugger, and Ryleigh Tillman.

Unfortunately, the results on the court went the wrong way for the Bishops, ending in a 7-0 shutout for Oberlin. OWU drops to 11-6 overall and finishes 3-4 in the NCAC, good enough for the five-seed in the NCAC Tournament. Oberlin advances to 12-5 and 4-3 in conference play, securing the four-seed. Coincidentally, the two teams will have a rematch in the NCAC Tournament quarterfinals next Friday.

Doubles saw OWU's only match win of the day as Mallory Hannan and Lily Hershey took a 6-2 result in match one. Sadly, it did not have any impact on the team score as the Yeowomen took the other two doubles matches from the pair of Frankie Nuss and Emma Pzedpelski, and the pair of Daniela Guzman and Marissa Zaleski by identical scores of 6-2.

Oberlin swept Ohio Wesleyan in singles, taking the six remaining points for a 7-0 final score. Hannan and Guzman came the closest to stealing a set, Hannan at 7-5, 6-2 in match one, and Guzman at 7-5, 6-1 in match six. Evaleigh Garnett was next with a 6-2, 6-4 loss. Pzedpelski lost match four 6-1, 6-2 while Nuss suffered a 6-1, 6-1 result in match two. Hershey was shutout 6-0, 6-0 in match three.
