OWU Drops Game Two against JCU, 13-6

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University baseball team wrapped up their two-game conference series with John Carroll on Friday afternoon at Littick Field. The Battling Bishops struggled in the early going, falling behind by five before getting a run on the board. JCU took advantage and scored in every inning except the ninth, leading to a 13-6 final.

OWU drops to 10-2 on the season, 1-3 in the NCAC. John Carroll moves to 14-6 on the year and 3-1 in conference play.

Runs were hard to come by for the Red and Black in the early innings, scoring just one in the third and one in the fifth. In the third, Nate Colyer reached with a single through the right side and advanced to third on a Michael Malone single that also resulted in an error. Coyler then came around to score on a productive groundout from Colton Moone. In the fifth, it was Colyer scoring once again, this time doing it all himself with his first career homer down the left field line.

In the meantime, John Carroll had put two up in both the first and second innings, one up in both the third and fourth, and four up in the fifth. Colyer's homer made it a 10-2 ballgame after five. From there, the Blue Streaks finished with one run apiece in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, bringing their total to 16.

Ohio Wesleyan pushed back a bit when facing the seventh-inning rule, scoring three in the seventh and adding one more in the ninth to bring the final scoreline to 13-6. Following a rain delay in the top of the inning, the bottom of the seventh featured four singles coupled with errors on the play, resulting in Nik Hilton, Colyer, and Luke Johson hitting safely and working their way around the bases rather quickly. The ninth started strong with a Holden Tomlin triple down the right field line. He would come home on a sacrifice fly by Reynaldo Pelaezas the last run of the game.
