CLEVELAND, Ohio – On Tuesday morning, the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) announced its Athletes of the Week for the first week of April. Ohio Wesleyan University sophomore sprinter and hurdler
Katherine Dortmund was selected for women's track & field sprints and hurdles alongside senior pitcher
Parker Tomlin for baseball.
Dortmund earned her sixth overall Athlete of the Week selection and fourth for outdoor track & field with two record-breaking performances, third first place finishes, and another top-three finish at the Marv Frye Invitational over the weekend. Her broken program records came in the 100-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles where she turned in times of 12.00 and 13.84, and of course finished first in both events. Dortmund also teamed up with
Aelyn Baumbarger,
Amarah McPhaul, and
Alaina Nathan to take first in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 47.77. Finally, she finished third in the 200-meter dash at 26.87.
Tomlin earned his second career selection after pitching a gem in his only appearance of the week against John Carroll. He started the game and went 7.1 innings, holding the Blue Streaks hitless through the first four. All-in-all, he allowed just one run (unearned) on three hits and three free passes while striking out a career-high eight batters, getting the 3-2 win for his fourth of the season.
Dortmund and the Red and Black track & field teams are back in action at home at Selby Stadium and George Gauthier Track for the All-Ohio Championship on Friday and Saturday. Tomlin and Bishops baseball head to DePauw for a Wednesday doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
Dortmund and Tomlin are the 23rd and 24th NCAC Athletes of the Week for Ohio Wesleyan this academic year.
