Gordon Field House Track Dedicated to Lloyd Ferguson ’62

DELAWARE, Ohio – The legacy of the late Lloyd Ferguson '62 has forever been embedded into the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University, with the dedication and naming of the indoor track at Gordon Field House in his honor.

"This facility has become a gathering space, not just a training ground," junior women's track & field and cross country student-athlete Brianna Montgomery said at the dedication ceremony held during Reunion Weekend.

"The Ferguson Family are not just donors, they are a part of this program, a part of this family, and a part of every success that will ever happen on this track," Montgomery continued. "Their investment does not just renovate spaces and lay track. It carries this program forward, connects generations of Bishops, and leaves something behind that none of us could have built alone."

Historic Gordon Field House – the longtime home of Ohio Wesleyan indoor track & field, indoor tennis, wrestling, and numerous other events throughout the year – received new life this academic year following an extensive interior renovation in Ferguson's memory, thanks to the generosity of his family, led by his wife, Martha, their son, William '92, and daughter, Diane. The renovation of the nearly 50-year-old field house involved installing new windows to increase natural light, a new lighting system and fresh paint for a more vibrant atmosphere, and a complete resurfacing of the track and tennis courts alongside multiple other equipment upgrades.

"Lloyd Ferguson gave Ohio Wesleyan his time, his treasure, and his heart," President Matt vandenBerg, Ed.D., said during the ceremony. "Today, we give something back: a permanent place on this campus that carries his name."

Ferguson fully embodied what it means to be a Bishop for life. After graduating, he spent the next six decades devoting his time and leadership to The Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship, and to countless other volunteer roles across the University. His impact touched nearly every corner of campus, from scholarships to athletics. He was a member of the Founders' Circle, the President's Circle, the Tower Society, and ultimately earned the title of Life Trustee – OWU's highest recognition for distinguished board service.

"We are honored to carry on Lloyd's legacy in this special place and provide continued opportunities for our student-athletes," said OWU Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Kris Boey at the ceremony. Boey and Montgomery welcomed Martha, William, Diane, and the rest of the Ferguson Family to cut the ribbon, officially dedicating The Lloyd Ferguson Track in his memory.
