STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's soccer team (1-3-2, 0-0-0 NCAC) traveled to face Franciscan (3-0-1, 0-0-0 PAC) on Wednesday night. It was a long night for the Bishops, being left scoreless despite outshooting the Barons 16-8 and surrendering a 3-0 losing result.
Franciscan swiped a quick two-goal lead before the 10-minute mark, scoring the opening goal in the third minute and adding a second in the ninth minute. Ohio Wesleyan was determined to get one on the board with five shots – three on target – in the remainder of the half, but were left empty handed.
The Bishops kept pressing in the second half with 10 more attacks, putting six on goal but remaining scoreless. In the waning moments of the match, the Barons added a third goal in the 84th minute to all but end it.
THE NUMBERS
Ohio Wesleyan led with 16 shots, putting nine on target. Franciscan took eight shots, putting seven on goal.
Kaia Vorenkamp and
Ava Schier led the Battling Bishops with three shots each.
Mia Bucci was the most accurate Bishop with two shots on goal.
Payton Beard (0-1) made her first career start in goal and recorded two saves in the first half.
Ava DeBolt took over in the second half and also made two saves.
