Battling Bishops Sweep Kalamazoo and Anderson to Draw Even on Season

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University volleyball team (5-5, 0-0 NCAC) hosted Kalamazoo and Anderson for a doubleheader on the second day of the Bishop Invitational on Saturday. The Battling Bishops got back to .500 on the season with sweeps in both matches.
 
MATCH ONE: OHIO WESLEYAN 3, KALAMAZOO 0
OWU swept Kalamazoo in three sets to start off their day. The first two sets could have gone either way with set one ending 25-21 in favor of the Bishops and set two being taken by the Red and Black in extra points 26-24. Ohio Wesleyan left little up for debate in the third with a 8-1 run to shut the door 25-10.

The Battling Bishops achieved 38 kills and 37 assists compared to Kalamazoo's 27 kills and assists. Both teams managed a total of seven aces. The Red and Black outblocked the Hornets 9-3.

Jordanne Shannon led OWU with 12 kills. Close behind was Natalie Dieball with nine, followed by Megan Lantis with four.

Dieball and Jaelyn Taylor each tallied two aces.

Abby Nulph led the pack with a season-high six blocks. Shannon achieved a career-high five blocks and Jaelyn Taylor tallied two. 

Jenna Ashbrook was the Red and Black's leading setter with 20 assists, followed by Taylor with nine and Avery Krause with four.

Krause recorded the most digs for OWU with 20. Maggi Wall followed with 10 and Dieball had eight.

MATCH TWO: OHIO WESLEYAN 3, ANDERSON 0
The Battling Bishops carried their high spirits into match two and closed out the Bishop Invitational with another sweep against Anderson. OWU earned an early lead in the first set with a 10-3 run before taking eight of the last 11 points and securing a 25-16 win. Anderson fought back in the second set, however the Bishops still managed to secure a close 25-23 win. OWU was behind in the early going of set three but took back control thanks to a 12-4 run. The Red and Black closed it out with a quick 7-2 run that proved to be the difference, ending 25-20.

OWU secured 42 kills with 39 assists, while Anderson had 35 kills with 34 assists. The Battling Bishops also put up a hot number of aces, having 13 compared to the Ravens' three. Ohio Wesleyan was dominant at the net, outblocking Anderson 8-2.

Abby Nulph took the lead in kills with 12 for a season high. Megan Lantis also achieved a season high with 11. Natalie Dieball had nine.

Avery Krause and Sydney Dales both had season highs with four aces. Sarah Thomas tallied two.

Nulph led the defensive front with five blocks. Jordanne Shannon and Jaelyn Taylor each had three.

Taylor also set the most assists with 18, followed by Jenna Ashbrook with 17.

Krause recorded 17 digs. Lantis had ten and Dieball had seven.
